Objective: Keep Microsoft workstations up-to-date. According to Microsoft’s Security Bulletin Advance Notification, the company will release eight security bulletins on Tuesday, April 14. Five of the bulletins are deemed “critical,” two have been rated “important” and one rated “moderate.” The bulletins will address security issues, including remote code execution, elevation of privilege and denial-of-service in Windows, Internet Explorer (IE), DirectX, Excel, Word and Microsoft’s security software. Six of the eight bulletins will require a restart.

Objective: Applying the latest update (currently at Update 2). Some key notes: interoperability fixes and enhancement of the QLogic drivers, resolves a potential memory leak in the hostd service (per VMware Support Rep), support for SUSE Linux Enterprise & Desktop Server 11, Ubuntu 8.10 Desktop and Server Editions, RHEL 4.7, support for 20 new NICs, limit on vCPUs per core raised from 8 to 20, a new VMXNET version improves virtual machine networking performance and requires VMware tools upgrade.
